After revisiting the Echigo Tsumari Art Triennial for the 2015 edition, I took myself to the city of Matsudai in Nagano prefecture, the night before I took a train and bus to the beautiful Southern Alps. My time was limited as I was travelling by local trains which take up a lot of hours, and take in a lot of scenery. I only had one night to spend in Matsudai. Luckily famous castles can be witnessed in the day and the night, especially if they are all lit up. I also avoided all the crowds, as did couples canoodling in the corners, and other day-laggard travellers lolling around the moat.
